Temporary Access Road for Transformer Station Delivery to a Solar Farm in Lubusz Voivodeship
Solar farms are covering increasingly larger areas of our country, which means they are often built in locations with difficult access. The transport of light components, such as PV panels, usually poses no problem, but the delivery of heavy transformer stations requires proper ground preparation. Each component weighs several tons and must be safely transported, unloaded, and installed on a stable surface.
For this project, within 72 hours from the first contact with the client, we provided an effective solution that allowed for the safe delivery of four transformer stations. We constructed a temporary access road nearly 400 meters long, enabling the transport of heavy equipment in challenging terrain conditions. The entire work took only 2 working days.
Logistical Challenges and the Need for Road Plates
On site, we encountered a partially built road made of reinforced concrete slabs, which the client ultimately abandoned in favor of a more efficient solution. The main challenges to overcome included:
- Building a Stable Access Road – ensuring a durable surface for vehicles carrying heavy transformers.
- Protecting the Ground from Damage – eliminating the risk of ground collapse under the weight of the transported elements.
- Quick Assembly and Disassembly – the solution had to be temporary to allow for easy site reclamation after the project.
- Adapting the Surface for Various Vehicle Types – from light delivery vehicles to trucks and cranes.
The solution that met all these requirements was the use of rental road plates, allowing for the quick preparation of temporary transport infrastructure.
Metrum Wooden Road Plates – Key Solution in This Project
To ensure road surface stability and enable the safe transport of heavy equipment, Metrum wooden road plates were used. This is an ecological and durable solution that performs excellently on soils with variable load-bearing capacities.
Why Use Metrum Plates?
- High Load Capacity – allows heavy vehicles to pass without the risk of road collapse.
- Flexibility and Ground Adaptation – wood provides better adaptation to terrain irregularities than rigid concrete plates.
- Express Assembly and Disassembly – the solution allows for quick preparation and later removal of the temporary road.
- Minimal Environmental Impact – wood is an eco-friendly material and can be reused multiple times.
Thanks to the use of Metrum wooden road plates, a durable and functional access road was created, ensuring the safe transport of transformers.

Project Outcomes and Benefits of Using Road Plates
The use of rental road plates allowed for:
- Protecting the Site from Degradation – the ground was not damaged, and after the project, it could be quickly restored to its original state.
- Safe Component Transport – transformer delivery proceeded smoothly and on schedule, without the risk of vehicles getting stuck.
- Optimizing Project Time – the quick assembly of plates allowed for road preparation in record time.
- Economic Solution – renting plates proved more cost-effective than constructing a permanent access road.
Thanks to appropriately selected rental road plates, the construction of the solar farm in Lubusz Voivodeship could proceed without unnecessary delays and transport logistics issues.
Why Rent Road Plates for Solar Farm Needs?
Solar farms often arise on soils with low load-bearing capacity, where temporary roads are essential for transporting key components. Renting road plates is a solution that avoids the high costs of permanent infrastructure construction and allows for quick surface removal after project completion.
Metrum wooden road plates are one of the best solutions because they provide:
- Durability and Flexibility – excellent adaptation to the ground and stability for heavy equipment.
- Quick Assembly and Disassembly – crucial in projects requiring dynamic solutions.
- Minimal Environmental Impact – natural material that can be reused.
