Construction of the 400 kV Kozienice – Miłosna Line: Temporary Roads and Maneuvering Areas
The construction of the 400 kV power line from Kozienice to Miłosna is one of the key energy investments in Poland. It required the creation of infrastructure that would enable the safe transportation of materials and construction equipment across terrain with varied ground conditions.
To ensure surface stability and enable efficient work, it was necessary to apply appropriate technologies that would allow for the quick assembly and disassembly of temporary roads. Our company supplied and installed over 260,000 m² of access roads and maneuvering areas, resulting in 60 km of temporary roads.
An additional challenge was the construction of over 2 km of access road through the Całowanie bog, where it was necessary to provide a stable surface for equipment weighing up to 90 tons.
Terrain Challenges and Technology Selection
The terrain through which the construction passed included both stable grounds and marshy areas with low load-bearing capacity. A particularly challenging location was the crossing through the bogs, where standard methods of building temporary roads might not have fulfilled their function. It was crucial to select a surface that would allow the safe transportation of heavy equipment, including a pile driver weighing 90 tons.
Additionally, maneuvering areas had to be created along the entire construction route to provide space for machine operations and storage of construction materials. The stability of these surfaces was crucial for the efficient progress of work and ensuring the safety of workers.
Metrum Wooden Road Plates – The Key to Success
To meet the challenging terrain conditions, Metrum wooden road plates were used. Their selection was dictated by several factors:
- High load resistance – allowed even very heavy equipment to pass.
- Excellent stabilization on soft terrain – performed well on bogs and marshy areas where other solutions might sink.
- Ease of transport and assembly – their light weight compared to concrete or steel plates allowed for quick deployment and later dismantling.
- Eco-friendly solution – wood as a natural material minimizes environmental impact and is safe for the bog ecosystem.
Thanks to the use of Metrum plates, it was possible to create stable access roads that ensured uninterrupted construction work even in the most challenging conditions.
Efficient Execution and Quick Dismantling
An important aspect of any infrastructure investment is the ability to quickly restore the area to its original state after work is completed. Metrum wooden road plates enabled efficient dismantling of temporary roads and minimized environmental impact.
After the completion of the power line construction, all plates were removed, and the area was properly secured. As a result, no lasting traces of environmental interference remained after the investment.
