The power cable connecting Poland and Sweden is over 250 kilometers long. Nearly 240 of those run along the Baltic Sea seabed. When it needs repair, access to the work site on land must be prepared efficiently and flawlessly—there’s no room for improvisation. We do not disclose the location, as it is part of critical infrastructure. However, we can describe what our task looked like.
Nearly 3,000 m² using four slab systems
To secure the area, we built nearly 3,000 m² of technology roads using four different slab systems—selected for specific zones and functions within the work site.
The main surface—over 2,100 m²—was made of Metrum 5 slabs with dimensions of 500×100×10 cm. These are wooden elements connected with steel rods, transferring dynamic loads up to 12 t/axle and static loads up to 30 t/m². In the designated work zones, Alu Deck HD panels were used—93 units across 108 m²—aluminum, corrosion-resistant, installed without heavy equipment. A layer of steel road slabs 300×150×1 cm (24 units) completed the pavement layout. Approach ramp endings and transition zones were secured with Flex Deck made of LDPE plastic—48 units across 144 m².
Technology roads near critical infrastructure
Work on critical infrastructure has strictly defined time windows, limited access to the site, and zero tolerance for delays. The surface must be ready before the first service vehicle arrives and must remain operational throughout the entire duration of the work.
Modular technology roads made from slabs meet these requirements — quick installation, high load-bearing capacity, and dismantling without any permanent interference with the ground. In a project commissioned for Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne, Enprom, and NKT A/S, this was crucial.
