Metrum Plates on a Barge – Unusual Application in Gdynia Port
We conclude the series of unusual applications of road plates with an exceptional project. This time, Metrum wooden road plates were used as a working deck on a barge utilized in the reconstruction of the Indian Quay at Gdynia Port. Aarsleff, a company specializing in hydrotechnical works, used them as a stable surface for construction machinery with a total weight of almost 200 tons.
Challenges of Working on Water
Reconstructing port infrastructure requires specialized solutions, especially when work is conducted on water. In this case, it was crucial to ensure:
- Durable surface – the machines working on the barge generate enormous loads that require a stable base.
- Moisture and weather resistance – the deck material had to withstand harsh environmental conditions.
- Easy assembly and disassembly – the plates had to be quickly installed and removed after the work was completed.
Metrum Plates as a Working Deck on a Barge
The use of Metrum plates in this project proved to be an excellent solution because:
- They ensured even load distribution, protecting the barge structure.
- They perform well in high-humidity environments, which was crucial in port conditions.
- They are lightweight and easy to install, allowing for quick preparation of the working platform.
Thanks to these properties, construction machines could safely move on the deck, and the work proceeded according to schedule.
