Transport ramps for SPMT – launching a floating dock in Szczecin

This is yet another time when our solutions have supported one of the largest transports in Poland and one of the largest in Europe. This time, at Stocznia Szczecińska Wulkan, the central section of the floating dock was launched from the OP-10 quay — so it could be connected to the stern section.

We were responsible for delivering the ramps to the OP-10 quay. For their construction, we used Metrum wooden boards and Alu Deck HD aluminium — for Sarens’ self-propelled multi-axle SPMT platforms.

What did the operation look like

You can see the entire operation in the video above — it’s truly impressive.

Wooden and aluminium boards for SPMT platforms

Operations with SPMT platforms place very specific requirements on the surface — huge dynamic loads, a port environment, and time pressure. There’s no room for improvisation.

Metrum boards are wooden elements joined with steel rods, manufactured in several dimensional variants. They transfer dynamic loads up to 12 t/axle and static loads up to 30 t/m², and they work well wherever the ground is uneven or exposed to moisture — such as in a port environment.

Alu Deck HD are aluminum panels measuring 300×215×5 cm with a static load capacity of 200 t/m². Corrosion-resistant and installed without heavy equipment, they create a hard, stable working surface — ideal as a top layer for the ramp in this type of operation.

Combining both systems makes it possible to build a ramp tailored to specific conditions: Metrum as a flexible base, and Alu Deck HD as the surface for the wheels of SPMT platforms.

Not the first time with this project

With the same dock, we have already delivered transport ramps under a module weighing 4000 tons — at the time, the transport ran from the Odra Nowa assembly yard to a barge, and then to the OP-10 yard. The final dock will be 235.6 meters long and will be assembled from three modules connected on the water.

Thank you to Stocznia Szczecińska Wulkan and Sarens for your trust and for the opportunity to take part in the next stage of this project.
