Reinforcing the ground in winter with road plates – a proven solution for frost and snow. Projects across Poland ✓ Installation in any conditions ✓ Plate rental

Winter 2025 demonstrated how diverse weather conditions can be in Poland – from extreme frosts in Pomerania, through heavy snowfall in Podlasie, to relatively mild weather in Silesia. Regardless of the region, one thing remains constant: construction and investments cannot wait until spring. When the ground freezes, snow falls, and temperatures drop below zero, stabilizing the terrain becomes crucial to ensure safe access for machinery, trucks, and construction teams.

Why are road plates the best solution in winter?

Traditional methods of ground stabilization – such as concreting or laying asphalt – are simply impossible to carry out in winter conditions. Temperatures below zero prevent the proper setting of concrete, and even gravel or aggregate combined with moisture and frost quickly create a muddy, unstable surface.

Renting road plates is a solution that works regardless of temperature:

  • Installation in any conditions – plates can be laid even at -20°C, without waiting for a thaw
  • Immediate load-bearing capacity – the area is ready for heavy equipment movement immediately after installation
  • Ground protection – plates protect the frozen or snow-covered ground from damage by vehicle wheels
  • Dismantling in spring – after the work is completed or winter subsides, the plates can be dismantled and reused

How to stabilize the ground in winter? Practical considerations

The fundamental question before any winter investment is: how to stabilize the construction site road when the temperature drops below zero? All available types of road plates – wooden, steel, aluminum, concrete, composite, and others – can be found in the road plates section. Each of these solutions can be installed regardless of weather conditions, making them an ideal choice in winter.

When choosing a method for ground stabilization in winter, it’s worth considering a few factors:

Type of soil and conditions
Frozen clay or mud under the snow is difficult to prepare for traditional stabilization. Road plates are laid directly on the prepared substrate – they don’t require a perfectly leveled surface.

Duration of the investment
If you need access only for a few weeks or months, renting road plates is much more cost-effective than building a permanent road. Once the work is completed, the renting company takes the plates away.

Load
In winter, heavy machinery often enters construction sites – cranes, excavators, trucks with materials. Road plates can withstand loads of up to several dozen tons, providing stable access even in the toughest conditions.

Layout flexibility
Plates can be laid longitudinally (in two wheel tracks) or transversely (across the entire width of the road) – depending on the required passage width and type of vehicles. This makes the solution adaptable to the specifics of each investment.

Winter projects in various regions of Poland

Last week, we carried out projects for clients throughout Poland – in completely different winter conditions:

  • Silesia – installation of a technological area with wooden plates
  • Lublinconstruction of an access road with wooden plates
  • Podlaskie – technological access with longitudinally laid plates (the heaviest snowfall in Poland)
  • Pomerania – temporary road with transversely laid plates (lowest temperatures, severe frost)
  • Greater Poland – access with aluminum plates

Each of these projects required a different approach – from the layout of the plates, through the type of materials used, to the logistics of transport in difficult conditions. In all cases, the result was the same: stable, safe access ready for use within one day.

Building access in winter – what to pay attention to?

If you plan to build technological access in winter, it’s worth consulting with the company renting the plates beforehand. Here are a few issues worth discussing:

Site preparation
Although plates can be laid on frozen ground, it’s worth ensuring that the surface is not uneven or covered with ice. Sometimes it is necessary to clear snow or level the ground.

Completion time
In winter, the day is shorter, and conditions can be more demanding for assembly teams. It’s worth planning the implementation well in advance.

Transport
Snowfall and icy roads can hinder the transport of plates to the construction site. Check with the renting company if they have experience in winter deliveries.

Safety
Road plates can be slippery when covered with snow or ice – it’s worth ensuring regular snow removal or surface sanding.

Renting road plates – a solution for every winter

Winter doesn’t have to mean a halt in investment. By renting road plates, you can ensure safe access to any location – regardless of temperature, snowfall, or ground conditions. This solution is proven in the toughest conditions, allowing construction work to continue year-round.
